Med-PIE – or Medical Professional Information Exchange – started at a registered limited company in the UK in December 2015. Both two directors, Dr Nikolaos Patelis and Mr Sean Matheiken, are vascular surgeons with a deep knowledge of distance learning piled through years of work with the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) e-learning team and the Royal College of Surgeons.
The products of the efforts of the two directors and the rest of the ESVS e-learning were available in the well respected site vasculareducation.com that it has silently been taken offline in 2016.
Soon after Med-PIE was established, it was decided that our efforts to provide e-learning tools and clinical server side applications should be projects meant for skilled colleagues to participate. Therefore, the for-profit scheme was abandoned and since then Med-PIE is a non-profit group of health professionals with an interest in technology.
At present, Med-PIE is run by Dr Nikolaos Patelis, who coordinates a number of colleagues in providing new tools supporting research and other clinical or academic projects.
